poeticallyincorrect:

OK, I have taken a while to post this to let myself calm down… because I was fucking pissed when I first saw this! These pictures were taken by my boyfriend (because I was driving) in our city when we were driving home from Costco! It’s right off the highway. The sign reads, “Choosing abortion STOPS a beating heart 1,043 times a week in Canada.” (not sure on the number, pic is blurry) The white beside the sign is that many little white crosses.

WHAT. THE. FUCK? Are they serious? I can’t believe how insensitive and unbelievable some people are. Not that my personal views matter in the least, but I think if the baby can’t survive outside the womb (including with medical equipment) then it’s part of the mother’s body and her choice. And you know what, it’s not an easy choice. There are a lot of women who need to choose abortion for reasons beyond their control - rape, their own lives may be at risk, the babies life could be at risk, etc - and seeing something like this afterwards would be like a knife in the heart.

Abortion is not birth control, I think everyone can agree on that, but it’s a choice that needs to be available. For anyone to say that adoption is the only alternative… really? How many children are currently awaiting adoption in Canada? In the US? Internationally? You want to add to that list and potentially ruin the life of a woman who may have been raped… who might only be 14… who maybe just escaped an abusive boyfriend…? Seriously?

I just can’t understand the thought process behind this. I can’t understand why in 2012 in Canada and the United States a women’s right to choice is being debated. I can’t see how anyone can think that religion allows them the right to deny birth control to women, but men can buy all the condoms they want. I really…

Fuck, I’m going to lie down, my head hurts.

It cuts both ways.

Hmmm. I kind of agree with this. I think free speech is important, but I think people need to understand free speech doesn’t mean full disclosure. While the government shouldn’t be telling us what we can or can’t say, some use this to also argue they should know everything the government is doing. I’m not sure why these lines get drawn together so often (and I realize this graphic does not reference full disclosure, I’m just using it to make my point here.)
The government needs to do some things in secret. If they had to tell the public everything they did they would never get anything done.
Sadly I think the bluring of these two extremely different topics is why this has become such an issue. I’m not American so perhaps it’s my perception of such things from outside the country that makes it seem blurred? But as long as people continue to fight two fights in one there’s no winning.
And again, this rant isn’t really related to this pic… I wanted to share the pic AND do the rant, so I did ‘em together!
